About the Department of Pediatrics

and Child Health

The Department of Pediatrics and Child Health is based at Health Sciences Center (HSC) Winnipeg Children’s Hospital, and serves the infants, children and adolescents of Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Northwestern Ontario. Our focus is on providing the best health care to the children we serve.

We are an academic pediatric hospital affiliated with the Rady College of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Manitoba, and Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba. As an active pediatric research facility, our researchers receive national and international support to address the important health issues faced by children and adolescents.  Our research training programs ensure that future researchers receive the support and education to continue solving Manitoba’s pediatric health problems.

With competitive training programs in pediatrics, including medical, nursing and allied health professions, we train the best clinicians to care for Manitoba’s pediatric patients.

Pediatrics is a provincial program in Manitoba operated through Shared Health; the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health has oversight of  the care of children at rural and remote sites in each of Manitoba’s health regions.

We acknowledge that we work on the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples, the homeland of the Métis Nation, and the original lands of the Inuit. We respect the Treaties made on these lands, and we acknowledge that our offices are located on Treaty 1 Territory.  Together, we are Keeping Children Healthy and Safe in Manitoba.
